MP3 Players
I'll put something real up later when I get to work, but for now I'm looking for suggestions for an mp3 player to purchase. I'm fighting buying an IPod because I eat meat, hate their marketing campaign and U2, but I'm struggling to find something else comparable. It also has to have one of the car jack things so I can play it in my truck... suggestions?

Requirements:
5+ gig
car dock
under $250- ish
and if it could play games that would be uber-sweet

Suck it up, stop eating meat, and buy what you know you were born to own: unreal Apple technology (hopefully preloaded with Bono and the boys).

In regards to Bono, he is a "no talent ass-clown." He sucks, his music sucks, and everyone who likes U2 can fornicate themselves with a metal stick, metaphorically speaking.

I really like the IPod, and if it wasn't so expenisve I would definetly buy one. More than loving the IPod I love ITunes. However, I saved money and bough a 15Gig refurbished Dell DJ for $150 last year. It works fine. Once you have your music loaded on they're all pretty much the same -- you have playlists, select them and press play, and your music comes out. To connect it to my car I bought an FM transmitter (about $30). It works fine most of the time unless you're in a college town that has lots of stations on the low bands (88.1-88.7). Even then you could spend a little more and get one that can go to any FM station. Even when there is a lot of interference you can't really hear it if you're listening to rock music, even U2. It won't work well with classical music most of the time, though, cause you'll hear some static and it will drive you crazy to the point that you break your MP3 player and make this whole venture worthless. So my advice is buy something thats cheap but useable with enough space for all your music. To me its worth saving $100 or $200 to have a little extra pain getting your songs on the way you want.

yeah, the dell's seem good, and RIO has a nice line of ipod clones out right now, but I think you've got to stick with the good stuff. There's just no beating an ipod. Mac's are just worlds better than any competition.

You can probably delete the U2 songs quickly enough not to permanently damage the ipod. i'd be happy to write a little program that does it for you and then shows a short animation of bono being consumed by fire, wrap-arounds and all.

iPod's aren't expensive at all. You can get a 6gig iPod Mini for $249. That is perfect. It isn't as good of a value as the 20gig iPod, but it is still a better value than anything else on the market.

Bono is amazing and meat is over rated... Barbarians!

PS – Don’t waste your money on an FM transmitter; just wire up an auxiliary input into the back of your head unit and get interference-free access to your mp3s for about $1.89 and 20 minutes of work.

Jesus the Barbarian, is that a new show coming to the WB? Is the Sword of the Spirit as sweet as Conan's?

Expensive is relative... $249 to listen to music while I hit golf balls is well... more than I make in a week. Combine that with my upcoming spring tuition bill in the 12k range and... well... I can barely afford the meat I crave. At least I know how to rationalize...
